AVE BEADS: 8mm cream colored wooden beads.

PATER BEADS: Rough Coral surrounded by turquoise rondelles give this rosary a natural essence.  Coral and turquoise were very popular in Mexico, especially for ornamental purposes in the Aztec nation.

We have tried to capture the look of the Aztecs who used turquoise and coral in color and stone. The image of Our Lady of Guadalupe carries these same colors and we have added the natural color of the tilma which was woven from fibers of a cactus plant.

ABOUT JUAN DIEGO: (Aztec name – Cuauhtlatoatzin or ‘Singing Eagle’) Juan Diego was an Aztec who was converted to the Christian faith along with his wife.

He was believed born in 1474 in the calpulli (ward) of Tlayacac in Cuauhtitlan which is about 20 kilometers north of Tenochtitlan (Mexico City). In the Nican Mopohua, the earliest writings of the Guadalupan event, he was identified as a ‘Macehualli’ (Poor Indian). He did not belong to any of the social categories of the Aztec Empire such as worriers, merchants or priests yet he was not a slave. It is recorded that he was a hard worker and was the maker of mats.
