THE GIFT OF THE GLACIERS: DRY DOCK MARINA VISIT

Within miles of the Dry Dock Marina location, there are (101) lakes formed by glaciers more than 10,000 years ago! As the glaciers retreated northward, large pieces of ice were left behind buried in the earth. Eventually, the ice melted, and water filled the depressions in the land forming the lakes in Steuben County.

In the middle of Steuben County is the national state institution, Pokagon State Park. Pokagon State Park is surrounded by Lake James, covering some 1,200 acres, making the lake Indiana’s fourth largest natural lake. The (EPA) has ranked Lake James water quality among the best in Indiana!  

Pokagon State Park houses Potawami Inn and just off the shores of the lodge is the soon to be world famous SAND BAR! Anchor your boat! Order some Filet Nuggets from the floating restaurant (PIRATES GALLEY) and play social butter fly all day!

We highlight Steuben County to show the significant amount of inland water activity this region has to offer! And please! To the other (100) lakes in the region, take no offense, you all offer summer (and ice-age winters) weekends full of wonderful experiences.

The sheer number of lakes provides a tremendous opportunity for boaters, sailors, beach bums, sun goddesses and fishing enthusiasts, to travel hours to take advantage of one of these (101) individually unique lakes.

In a county with this much activity, THE C|Y|G Team set out on a mission to explore and learn more about the marina service centers in the immediate area. THE C|Y|G Team spends significant time in this region, and we want to provide you our first-hand knowledge of Steuben County!

One of our first visits was to DRY DOCK MARINA – conveniently located near the cities of Fremont and Angola (Lake James + Snow Lake), Crooked Lake, Pleasant Lake, Hamilton and Kendallville.

Dry Dock Marina, located in the heart of Steuben County in Angola, is Owned and Operated by the Archbold Family.  It is a Family Affair! Father (Terry) is the Owner, Cory is the G.M. and Chris runs the sales department.

Passionate about boating and all things related to the industry, you walk no further than to the back of the showroom – near the service center – and find what I will refer to as “THE MUSEUM!” The owner’s office and surrounding area is packed with antique outboards and boating equipment. Take your time and explore. THE PASSION SHOWS!

What did we learn from our visit?
