November 1, 2019; Savannah is one of those places that you can’t visit just once. The city is full of history and unforgettable places that you must visit. It’s also the host of many amazing events, including the annual Savannah Pride, which just celebrated its 20th anniversary. The best part? Savannah’s Pride is in October, so you can enjoy all the Summer Prides across North America, and then top it off with Savannah! With so much to do and see in Savannah, we put together a list with the top six experiences that can’t be missed!
Trolley Tour – Even though you can explore most of Savannah by walking around, the trolley tour is a great way to get to know the city and hear about the best attractions. The trolley makes frequent stops during the tour, and you are free to hop on and off. If you are a traveler without a plan, we recommend doing the tour first, so you have an idea of what places you want to go to during the rest of your trip.
Tour of the Owens-Thomas House and Slave Quarters – There is a lot of history in Savannah, but the Owens-Thomas and Slave Quarters take you back in time. You will see the most excellent examples of Regency architecture as well as the original slave quarters.
Forsyth Park – This is Savannah’s largest and oldest park and the home of one of Savannah’s most well-known icons and most photographed spots – the Forsyth Park fountain. This is a must-stop for Instagram pictures.
The American Prohibition Museum – This is another destination that will transport you back in time. This is the first and only US museum dedicated to the history of prohibition, and you can even get a drink while there.
City Market – Because shopping is an essential part of every trip, the City Market is the place to go. This is where you can visit Candy Kitchen and try their pecan pralines, and Byrd’s Famous Cookies, which has been in business since 1924.
Savannah’s Pride – If you have to choose a month to visit Savannah, October is the answer. Savannah’s Pride weekend happens in October of every year, and it is full of fun events, especially since it is right around Halloween. A lot of the parties are themed so that you can celebrate both Pride and Halloween at the same time – super unique! This year alone, there was a Masquerade, the parade, a mermaid fest, and even a pawrade! It can’t get any better than that.
